Dyslexia and Entrepreneurs

The NY Times is running an article by Brent Bowers called Tracing Business Acumen to Dyslexia. It is hitting something I heard from Daniel Pink
in a podcast I have from him – people with dyslexia develop strengths that are
often good for entrepreneurship.  Those
strengths are suggested to be:
  • oral communication
  • delegation
  • overcome a lot
  • creative
  • able to identify trustworthy people
  • visual

Corporate managers tend to read, read, and read some more.

Here are some stats I pulled from the article:

  • 10% of the US population has dyslexia
  • 35% of entrepreneurs have dyslexia in the US
  • 20% of entrepreneurs were found in 2001 in a British study
  • 1% of corporate managers have dyslexia

Here are a few leaders who are very successful with dyslexia

  • Richard Branson – Virgin
  • Charles Schwab – Schwab
  • John Chamber – Cisco
  • Paul Orfalea – Kinkos
