By reading professional blogs, and occasionally commenting on them, I'm telling my "constantly looking to improve" story. Whether anyone could incorporate this story in a way that motivates me remains to be seen. I certainly hope so ...

Will reduce too big to fail issue. Most mergers and acquisitions are not very successful operationally. The reason they take place is for monetization gains for the top management and the board. Over time they become bureaucratic and slow.

Thanks Ben for these comments. You certainly have zeroed in on the emotional responses to Bret's blog. It does become about ourselves at some point. Thank you for being who you are. Your writing gives me a peek into the person that you are on the inside that I don't always get to see. You make me so proud!

One definition I've heard of luck is that it is where preparation and opportunity meet.

I'm in sales where competition is most prevalent, and I find it hard to believe how differently my last employer used competition among employees compared to my current employer. One posted our sales numbers daily for the world to see, and the other makes it very difficult to know what the rest of the pack is doing. I've noticed these statistics are shared more when we're not in recession, and everyone's looking relatively good. I'm sure they do that for morale.

For me, I prefer competition but what about your industry/profession? Some are more conducive than others and some may not be intrinsically motivated. Really, that's what it all comes down to... what pushes your buttons. I find myself somewhat intrinsically motivated but more so extrinsically - as in show me the $. I'd be curious to know how the majority of people are motivated...
